I like sketching distorted bodies
February 3, 2012
People love drawing, painting, sculpting human forms. People see themselves in cloud shapes, abstract artwork, gravel and just about anything where shapes apply. One of the best parts of being human and representing that through art is fiddling around with features. I like making feet really large for example. There of course is a non-serious slant to all of this. Art is humor to a certain extent. I want people to look at my sketches and go home and eat soup. Maybe that'll never happen but at least if it catches one's attention for a few seconds I've done my job.
This particular lady was a nude model in one of my college classes. Her name was Claudine and she was very thin. I ate lunch with her. She too ate food. I found many people prefer sketching nude females as opposed to nude males because they tend to have a softer profile and more curves, obviously. Claudine however didn't really have any curves but her body did catch light in a way that wasn't typical to either a male or female. She was unusual and I liked sketching her. Here's one of my favorite sketches of her done in charcoal back in 2002 I believe.
